Greenville High School COMMUNITY AND STUDENTS WORKING TOGETHER FOR SAFE PROM #GHSBlog The GCS chapter of S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) has been working very hard to organize a Post Prom Party for May 9-10. The purpose of the all-night party is to provide a safe, drug and alcohol free environment for students to “party till dawn.” Hopefully, this will help prevent any serious drug and alcohol related accidents from occurring after the Prom. Over 100 students attend each year. All GCS juniors and seniors are invited to attend, regardless of whether they go to the Prom. A record number of parents, community members, businesses and service organizations gave very generously their time and resources to help make last year’s event outstanding and very successful. The following is a list of those who have demonstrated their support already this year: Van Auken Express Co. Moosehead Cedar Log Homes, Greenville Saw Service, Inc. Baumann’s Brookside, Barbara Brandon, Oak Valley Logging, Kelly’s Pharmacy, NAPA Greenville Auto and Truck Parts, Inc. Big Top Tents, Town Line Auto, Anne Lafferty Realty, Just A Buck, Grapeville Agency, Inc. Michelle Case. More have expressed an interest and are expected to contribute. Another listing will be publicized in the near future to show S.A.D.D.’s gratitude and to commend the many caring and involved individuals and businesses. A list of students who attend the party, and what time they leave, will be available after the party for any parents who want to contact Mr. Tyrrell at the High School (966-5070) If your business or service organization has not been contacted, or you have not yet taken the opportunity to become part of this combined effort between the school and community, please feel free to join in! Contact James Tyrrell (S.A.D.D. Advisor) at Greenville High School, Greenville, N.Y. (966-5070) S.A.D.D. is hopeful that this event will save lives and be great fun!

Greenville High School Summer Opportunities for Students! #GHSBlog The Huyck Preserve and Biological Research Station is a local resource for environmental education and ecological research in Rensselaerville. Its summer programs include enriching opportunities for high school students. The Natural History Day Program for Grades 6-10 is a week-long program that introduces students to field investigations in such topics as forest, behavior, community, invasive, and aquatic ecology. The week includes a short research project done in teams in which students will pick a topic to study, collect and analyze their data, and present their results in a poster to their classmates. The program is held from 9 am – 4 pm. Session 1 runs July 6th – 10th, and Session 2 runs July 13th – 17th. Wildlife Ecology Research for Grades 11-12 is an intensive three-week program where rising junior and senior high school students learn basic ecological principles through hands-on research experience. Students live and work together at the field station, learning ecology and performing small group research projects under the instruction and guidance of scientists and researchers of all levels. Session one runs July 5th – 26th, and Session 2 runs August 2nd – 23rd. For more information and to apply, visit http://ift.tt/1xqA0BV or contact the Huyck Preserve at 797-3440.

Greenville High School Last Monday students were greeted at their locker with an inspirational quote. Several high school students took time to write over 600 post-its to put on all MS and HS lockers. They also put a flier into lockers. Their goal was to inspire others to do random acts of kindness. I'm attaching a picture and a copy of the flier they shared. I thought this was a great idea and wanted to share a week later to see if we could inspire more random acts of kindness. #GHSBlog
